Chapter 9: The Man Behind Everything
Adrian spent the entire night staring at the photograph.
His father.
Richard Oleso.
A man who had been dead for five years.
Impossible.
Yet there he was.
Standing beside Claire.
Talking.
Planning something.
"What is this?"" Adrian demanded.
Marcus sat calmly.
"The reason Claire was afraid.""
Adrian grabbed the photo.
"My father died.""
"Yes.""
"Then explain.""
Marcus leaned forward.
"Your father had enemies.""
"Everyone does.""
"Not like this.""
Adrian looked at him.
"Why should I believe you?""
"Because I have proof.""
Marcus opened another folder.
Inside were old company records.
Private agreements.
Hidden accounts.
Adrian felt the world shifting beneath him.
"My father?""
"He created a second financial network before his death.""
"Why?""
Marcus looked at him.
"Because he believed someone would eventually try to take your company.""
Adrian frowned.
"Who?""
Marcus was silent.
Then:
"Your father suspected someone close.""
The answer came before the words.
Elena.
Adrian shook his head.
"No.""
Marcus watched him.
"You still want to believe everyone you love is innocent.""
The sentence hurt because it was true.
"Why help me?""
Marcus looked away.
"Because Claire saved my daughter once.""
Adrian froze.
"What?""
"Years ago.""
The man sighed.
"I owed her.""
That evening, Adrian confronted Elena again.
She didn't deny anything.
That frightened him.
"You knew my father was alive when Claire died?""
Elena looked exhausted.
"No.""
"Then why was he with Claire?""
"I don't know.""
"You're lying.""
Her eyes filled with pain.
"Adrian, not every secret is a betrayal.""
"How convenient.""
She stepped closer.
"Do you know why Claire trusted me?""
He didn't answer.
"Because I was the only person who believed her.""
"About what?""
"About your father.""
The room became silent.
Elena whispered:
"Richard Oleso wasn't killed by illness.""
Adrian stared.
"What?""
"He was murdered.""
The truth unfolded slowly.
Piece by piece.
Richard had discovered financial fraud inside his own company.
He had tried to expose it.
But before he could, he died.
Claire continued his investigation.
She found connections.
Connections that led to people around Adrian.
People who wanted control.
People who saw Adrian as easy to manipulate.
Then Claire found one final piece.
A document proving who had been moving money.
Who had been planning everything.
Who had benefited from every tragedy.
Adrian looked at Elena.
"Who?""
She pushed a final envelope toward him.
"Open it.""
Inside was a name.
One name.
Adrian stopped breathing.
Because it wasn't Vanya.
It wasn't Marcus.
It wasn't Elena.
It was someone who had been there his entire life.
Someone he had trusted.
Someone he never questioned.
His older brother.
Victor Oleso.
Adrian returned to the mansion before midnight.
He found Victor waiting in the living room.
As if he knew.
"You found out.""
Adrian stopped.
"How?""
Victor smiled sadly.
"You always were curious.""
"Did you hurt Claire?""
Victor looked at him.
Then he laughed.
A quiet, cold laugh.
"Still asking the wrong question.""
Adrian's fists tightened.
"What does that mean?""
Victor stood.
"The question is why Claire was looking into me.""
"Because she discovered what you did.""
Victor shook his head.
"No.""
He stepped closer.
"Because she discovered what your father did.""
Adrian froze.
"My father?""
Victor smiled.
"Your father wasn't trying to protect you.""
"What are you talking about?""
Victor whispered:
"He was trying to protect Lila.""
The words made no sense.
Until Victor handed him one final document.
A birth certificate.
Adrian looked down.
May you like
Then his entire world stopped.
Because the father's name on the document was not Adrian Oleso.
