Chapter 3: The Woman Who Married Into the Romano Name

The message disappeared from Bianca’s phone screen before Vittorio could read anything else.

But three words were already burned into his mind.

*He knows everything.*

Not I know everything.

Not We need to talk.

Not Where are you?

*He.*

Someone else.

Someone who had enough power to make Bianca panic.

Vittorio stood in the center of the breakfast room, surrounded by evidence of betrayal.

The videos.

The hidden recordings.

The frightened faces of the people who had been keeping secrets under his roof.

For years, he had believed the greatest threat to his family came from outside.

Business competitors.

Enemies who wanted his company.

People who wanted the Romano name to fall.

He never imagined the danger had been eating breakfast with him every morning.

“Who is he?””

His voice was quiet.

Bianca looked away.

“Vittorio—”

“Who is he?””

This time, his voice carried through the room.

Lucy was upstairs.

Emma was with her.

For once, he didn’t care about maintaining peace.

Peace had protected the wrong people for too long.

Bianca took a slow breath.

“You’re making assumptions.””

“No.””

He stepped closer.

“I’m asking a question.””

Marcus moved between them.

“Vittorio, this isn’t the time.””

Vittorio looked at him.

“You don’t get to decide when I ask questions in my own house.””

Marcus froze.

The words landed harder than a shout.

Because everyone in the room understood something had changed.

Vittorio wasn’t the man who walked away from conflict anymore.

He was the man who had finally seen it.

“Who is he?”” Vittorio asked again.

Bianca’s silence was her answer.

His stomach tightened.

“Emma.””

The housekeeper looked up.

“Yes, sir?””

“Did you know about this?””

Emma shook her head quickly.

“No.””

“Anything about Bianca’s past?””

Emma hesitated.

That hesitation bothered him.

“Emma.””

She looked down.

“I knew something.””

“What?””

“She didn’t come from the life she told you about.””

Bianca’s expression turned sharp.

“Emma.””

But Emma continued.

“I never wanted to get involved.””

Vittorio turned toward Bianca.

“What did you tell me?””

Bianca remained silent.

He remembered.

The stories she had given him when they first met.

A difficult childhood.

A family that struggled.

A woman who built herself from nothing.

He remembered admiring her.

He remembered thinking she was strong.

But now every memory felt like a photograph with something hidden behind it.

“Your father never approved of me,” Bianca finally said.

Vittorio stared.

“My father?””

“Yes.””

“That’s what this is about?””

Bianca laughed bitterly.

“You think your father was kind?””

The mention of his father changed the atmosphere.

Everyone knew the Romano family history.

His father, Alessandro Romano, had built an empire through discipline, ruthless decisions, and an obsession with legacy.

But Vittorio had spent years trying to become different.

“Don’t change the subject,” Vittorio said.

“I’m not.””

Bianca’s eyes hardened.

“Your father destroyed my family.””

The room went silent.

Vittorio blinked.

“What?””

“You heard me.””

“No.””

He shook his head.

“My father had enemies. Many people blamed him for things.””

“Because he deserved it.””

“Careful.””

Bianca stepped closer.

“There it is.””

“What?””

“That loyalty.””

Vittorio stared at her.

“You’re trying to make me defend someone who is dead instead of answering for what you did to Lucy.””

For a moment, Bianca had no response.

Then she looked away.

That was when Vittorio knew.

She had a story.

Maybe even a painful one.

But pain did not excuse what she had done.

Not to his daughter.

Not to anyone.

“Where is the man who sent that message?””

Bianca’s face changed slightly.

“I don’t know.””

A lie.

Vittorio recognized it immediately.

After years in business, he knew the difference between uncertainty and deception.

Marcus noticed too.

“You do know.””

Bianca looked at him.

A warning.

A silent command.

Marcus ignored it.

“You know exactly who he is.””

“Marcus.””

“No.””

His voice cracked.

“You dragged me into this.””

Vittorio turned.

“Explain.””

Marcus looked exhausted.

Like he had been holding a secret that was destroying him.

“I didn’t know what she planned at first.””

Bianca stared at him.

“You’re really doing this?””

Marcus shook his head.

“I thought it was about money.””

Vittorio’s expression darkened.

“Money.””

Marcus swallowed.

“Bianca knew about the inheritance clause.””

“What inheritance clause?””

The question hung in the air.

Marcus looked at him.

“Your father changed his will before he died.””

Vittorio went still.

“What?””

“Your father left most of the estate to you.””

“I know that.””

“No.””

Marcus shook his head.

“You know the public version.””

Vittorio felt a cold feeling spread through him.

“What is the private version?””

Marcus looked toward the hallway.

Almost as if he expected someone else to appear.

Then he said:

“Your father added a condition.””

Bianca closed her eyes.

She knew what was coming.

“If you ever lost control of your family because of your own choices,” Marcus continued, “the inheritance would transfer to someone else.””

Vittorio frowned.

“That makes no sense.””

“It does if you know the condition.””

“What condition?””

Marcus hesitated.

Then whispered:

“Your father believed the Romano legacy could only survive if the person leading it could protect his own home.””

Vittorio felt his heartbeat slow.

“What does that mean?””

Marcus looked at Bianca.

“It means if your marriage was proven to be a threat to the family, your ownership could be challenged.””

Silence.

The pieces began moving.

Lucy.

The humiliation.

The fear.

The attempts to damage their relationship.

Bianca wasn’t only hurting Lucy.

She was creating evidence.

Trying to make Vittorio appear unable to protect his own family.

Emma covered her mouth.

“Oh my God.””

Vittorio looked at Bianca.

“You were trying to make me lose everything.””

Bianca’s eyes flashed.

“I was trying to take what should have been mine.””

There it was.

The truth.

Not guilt.

Not regret.

Anger.

“You married me for my inheritance.””

“No.””

She stepped forward.

“I married you because your family took everything from mine.””

“That doesn’t answer the question.””

Bianca’s jaw tightened.

“Yes.””

The single word echoed.

Vittorio felt something inside him break.

Not love.

That had already been damaged.

Something else.

Trust.

“How long?””

Bianca looked confused.

“What?””

“How long have you been planning this?””

She didn’t answer.

And that was answer enough.

Vittorio turned away.

He needed air.

He needed distance.

Because standing there, looking at the woman who had hurt his daughter, he was afraid of what he might say.

Then a small voice came from the doorway.

“Daddy?””

Everyone turned.

Lucy stood there.

Emma was behind her, looking worried.

Vittorio immediately walked toward his daughter.

“You shouldn’t be here.””

Lucy looked past him.

At Bianca.

Her face changed.

Fear.

Real fear.

Vittorio noticed.

He knelt down.

“Lucy?””

She held onto his sleeve.

“Is she leaving?””

The question was simple.

But it revealed everything.

Lucy wasn’t asking about punishment.

She was asking if the person who hurt her was still going to have power over her.

Vittorio looked into his daughter’s eyes.

“No one will hurt you again.””

Lucy nodded slowly.

Then whispered:

“Daddy… there was another night.””

Vittorio froze.

“What night?””

Lucy looked at Bianca.

Then at Marcus.

Her small fingers tightened around his hand.

“The night Mommy thought I was asleep.””

Bianca’s face suddenly went pale.

Marcus looked terrified.

Vittorio lowered his voice.

“What happened that night?””

Lucy’s eyes filled with tears.

“She said she was going to make sure you never believed me.””

Nobody moved.

Nobody breathed.

Then Lucy said the words that changed everything:

“She showed someone my picture and said…”

Her voice broke.

Vittorio held her closer.

“What did she say, sweetheart?””

Lucy whispered:

“She said I was the only thing stopping her from owning the Romano family.””

And for the first time that morning, Bianca looked like she had lost.

Because Vittorio finally understood.

May you like

Lucy had never been the target.

She had been the weapon.
