Chapter 7

Weeks turned into months.

Leo began to bloom.

He laughed more. Spoke up. Held his head high.

He went to a new school. Made friends. Learned what it felt like to be respected. To be loved.

Elena watched him grow with a heart full of gratitude.

Mara stayed on—not as a maid, but as part of the family. She managed the home. She loved Leo. She loved Elena.

And slowly, carefully, they began to heal together.

One afternoon, Leo ran into the garden.

"Mom! Mom Mara! Look what I can do!"

He showed them his drawing.

Three figures. Holding hands.

"Us," he said proudly.

Elena knelt and kissed his forehead.

"It's beautiful, Leo. Just like us."

Mara wiped her eyes.

"We did good," she said softly.

Elena looked at the woman who had raised her son in secret, risking everything.

"We did wonderful," Elena said.

But shadows still lingered.

Vivian and Richard had lost their reputation. Their money. Their standing in society.

And word came—they were leaving. Moving far away. To start over.

Elena heard the news and said nothing.

"Should we be afraid?" Mara asked quietly.

May you like

Elena shook her head.

"No. They have lost everything that mattered to them. They have no power left. And we... we have each other."
