Chapter 6

The legal battle was brutal.
Vivian and Richard fought viciously. Claimed Elena was unstable. That Mara was lying. That Leo belonged with them.
But Elena had proof. Witnesses. Documents. And most of all—she had truth.
She stood in the courtroom and told the story of her stolen child.
Of the years of searching. Of the grief. Of finding him in her own sister’s home, treated like garbage.
The judge listened in silence.
When Leo testified—quietly, bravely—about the cake in his face, the name-calling, the heavy work—the courtroom fell silent.
Vivian and Richard shifted in their seats. Ashamed. Cornered.
The judge ruled in Elena’s favor. Full custody. Permanent.
And more—he ordered Vivian and Richard to pay every cent they had ever given Mara as "hush money" back to Elena. Plus damages.
"They will pay for every tear," the judge said. "Every insult. Every moment of pain."
Elena walked out of the courthouse holding Leo’s hand.
Vivian stood on the steps, pale and furious.
"You ruined us," she hissed.
Elena stopped. Looked at her sister.
"You ruined yourself," she said. "The moment you stole my child."

She walked away.
And she never looked back.
