Chapter 16

Evelyn’s world got smaller.

Robert’s divorce exposed financial secrets too.

Hidden accounts.

Payments to Victor Lang.

Old clinic invoices.

Money sent to keep records quiet.

She had spent decades protecting a story that made her queen of a family bloodline she had secretly rewritten.

The irony was almost too much.

She had called me barren.

Broken.

Useless.

When her entire motherhood identity rested on a lie she refused to name.

At her deposition, Alicia asked, “Why did you accuse Sarah of infertility when you knew your son had male-factor results?”

Evelyn said, “I didn’t know how bad they were.”

Alicia slid the report across the table.

“You had a copy two weeks before the dinner.”

Evelyn said nothing.

There it was.

Silence.

Finally used against her.
