Evelyn did apologize.
Technically.
She sent a letter through Robert.
Sarah,
I regret that emotions became high at dinner. I should not have slapped you, but you must understand how painful it was to watch my son suffer without a child.
Evelyn
I read it once.
Then handed it to Alicia.
“Is this useful?”
Alicia smiled.
“Very. She admits the slap.”
Nora said, “I hate lawyer brains.”
Alicia said, “Lawyer brains keep receipts.”
Evelyn’s non-apology became part of the protective order request after she showed up at Nora’s house two days later.
She stood on the sidewalk screaming that I had stolen her son.
Nora opened the window and shouted, “Your son is infertile, not stolen.”
Not elegant.
Very satisfying.
Police were called.
