Chapter 15
Madison apologized in court.
She did it during her plea for trespass and assault.
She received probation, community service, and a no-contact order.
Her statement was short.
“I entered Emily Carter’s home knowing she was still Daniel’s wife. I wore her clothes. I struck her. I accepted a lie because it gave me what I wanted. I am sorry.”
I believed that she was sorry.
I did not owe her comfort.
Afterward, she approached Karen, not me, and handed over one final flash drive.
“Daniel said this was insurance.”
On it were recordings of Daniel talking to Victor.
One line sealed everything.
Daniel:
Once Emily signs or thinks she signed, the lake house is ours. Madison gets the main house. I get liquidity. Everybody wins.
Everybody.
Except the wife.
