Chapter 10

I opened it outside, under the same streetlamp where we'd spoken.

Inside was my card. Folded. Unused.

And a note, written in the same pencil:

*Do good. Stay safe. And remember—sometimes the truest loyalty comes from the hand you least expect.*

No name. No address. No way to find her.

I folded it carefully. Put it close to my heart.

I looked up at the rain-swept sky.

I had lost three people that night. People I'd loved. Trusted. Called family.

But I had gained something far more precious.

Proof that loyalty isn't written in blood. It is written in courage. In kindness. In standing up for what is right, even when it costs you everything.

I turned and walked away.

Toward a new life. A better way.

And I never forgot.

Somewhere out there, a girl named Elena had taught me the greatest lesson of all:

Family is who you choose.

Loyalty is what you earn.

May you like

And sometimes… the hand that saves you belongs to the one you never even knew.
