Chapter 4

Daniel came home two days later.
He walked in like nothing had happened. Like he expected me to be waiting with open arms.
"Emma," he said softly. "I'm so sorry. It was a mistake. It meant nothing. I love you. I love our family."
I didn't cry. I didn't scream.
I just handed him the folder.
"Read it," I said.
He flipped through the pages. His face went pale.
"Emma, this is—"
"Everything," I said. "Every hotel. Every lie. Every dollar you spent on her while I bought Lily's school supplies on sale."
I stood up.
"I'm filing for divorce, Daniel. Full custody of Lily. And I want every penny of that money back."
He dropped the folder. Stepped toward me.
"You can't do this. Think about Lily. Think about us."
"I am thinking about Lily," I said. "I don't want her to grow up thinking this is what love looks like. Lying. Cheating. Stealing from your own family."
He knelt down, trying to take my hands.
"I'll change. I'll go to therapy. I'll never see her again. Please, Emma. Give me another chance."

I pulled my hands away.
"You had a hundred chances," I said. "And you chose her every single time."
