Chapter 3

I drove home that night.

Three hours alone in the dark.

My face was streaked with tears. My hands still shook on the wheel.

I thought about Lily. Our seven-year-old daughter. The light of my life.

She was staying with my parents for the weekend. Safe. Happy. Unaware that her world was about to change forever.

I thought about the life Daniel and I had built.

Ten years of marriage. A house. A family. Dreams we'd shared.

And all of it—lies.

I pulled into the driveway and sat in the car for a long time.

I could go inside. Pretend nothing had happened. Try to fix it.

Or I could face the truth.

I turned off the engine.

I went inside.

And I started collecting evidence.

Every credit card statement. Every email. Every text message where he'd claimed to be working late. Every photo of "business dinners" that now looked like lies.

I put it all in a folder.

And I called a lawyer.
