Chapter 5

The attack came on Marco’s eighteenth birthday.
Everything seemed normal. Quiet. Safe.
But I felt it. A strange, heavy feeling in my chest.
I watched the guests. Watched the staff. Watched every movement.
Then I saw him.
A man carrying a tray. Walking toward Marco. His hand trembling.
I didn't think.
I stepped forward. Spilled my drink. Right onto the man’s tray.
A small vial rolled across the floor. Glinting in the light.
Marco saw it. His eyes widened.
Guards seized the man instantly.
Mr. Moretti walked over to me.
He looked at the vial. Then at me.
"You did it again," he said quietly. "You saved him."
Marco stepped up beside me. He took my hand.
"Twice," he said. "She has saved me twice."

He turned to his father.
"She is not just our guest. She is not just a maid's daughter. She is part of this family. And I will protect her with my life."
