Chapter 1

The little girl accidentally dropped and ruined the cream cake just as the mafia boss’s son reached for it—and that clumsy mistake saved his life.
It was a grand birthday party at a luxurious mansion in New York.
Everywhere stood tall, serious men in dark suits.
My mother worked here as a maid, so I came along to help.
I was only seven years old.
The birthday boy was twelve, the only son of the most feared man in the city.
He was arrogant, cruel, and used to getting everything instantly.
That afternoon, a magnificent cream cake was carried in.
It was his favorite—vanilla, strawberries, layers of sweet cream.
The chef set it down carefully.
Everyone gathered around, holding their breath.
The boss’s son stepped forward, hand reaching out to cut the very first slice.
I was walking past with a tray of glasses.
I tripped over the edge of the rug.
I stumbled forward.
My elbow hit the cake stand hard.
The entire cake tipped over and crashed onto the floor.
Cream and strawberries splattered everywhere.
Silence fell over the room like a heavy stone.
The boy froze, his hand still in mid-air.
Then he turned and looked at me with eyes full of pure hatred.
"YOU LITTLE BRAT!" he screamed.
His father, the feared mafia boss, stood up slowly.
His face was terrifyingly calm.
Two guards grabbed my arms and dragged me forward.
Tears streamed down my face.
"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!" I cried.
The boss stepped closer, his voice low and dangerous.
"Do you have any idea what you just did?"
I trembled so hard I could barely stand.
The birthday boy was still shouting that I should be punished severely.
Just then, the chef rushed over and knelt beside the ruined cake.
He picked up a piece of the cream layer.
He looked at it closely.
Then his face went white.
He stood up and turned to the boss, his hands shaking.
"Sir... look at this..."
He pointed to a dark, fine powder mixed into the cream.
Something that definitely should not have been there.
The boss’s eyes narrowed.
His doctor stepped forward and examined it.
Within seconds, the doctor looked up, pale as death.
"This is poison," the doctor whispered. "Strong enough to kill a grown man in minutes."
The room erupted in gasps.
The boss’s son staggered backward, staring at the cake on the floor.
He realized instantly what had happened.
If I hadn't dropped that cake... he would be dead right now.
The boss turned slowly to me.
His expression changed completely.
The anger vanished, replaced by something else—shock, then gratitude.
He waved the guards away.
He knelt down in front of me, face level with mine.
"Look at me, child," he said gently.
I looked up, terrified.
"What is your name?" he asked.
"Anna," I whispered.
He reached out and brushed a tear from my cheek.
A slow, serious smile touched his lips.
May you like
"Anna," he said, loud enough for everyone to hear. "You didn't ruin a cake today."
"You saved my son's life."
