Chapter 10

Years later.
I stood in the great hall. Looking at the statue.
Marco walked up beside me. He placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Do you ever wonder what would have happened if you hadn't tripped?" he asked.
I smiled.
"I would have been just a girl carrying a tray. But I did trip. And everything changed."
Marco turned me gently to face him.
"You didn't just save my life, Anna," he said softly. "You gave me a life worth living. You gave me purpose. You gave me family."
He took my hand.
"You are my sister. My guardian. My best friend. And I will love you forever."
I looked into his eyes—the same eyes that had once burned with hatred, now shining with love.
"I will love you too," I said. "Forever."
Outside, the sun set over the city.
Somewhere, a cake had fallen. Cream had spilled. And hatred had turned to love.
A mistake. A miracle.
Destiny.
And I knew... if I had the chance... I would trip a thousand times over.
