They locked me inside the music room minutes before the showcase, screaming that I never deserved the lead role. I didn't beg. I picked up a chair.
The lock cracked on the first swing.
The door flew open.
I stepped out, breath fast, hands shaking.
They stood in the hallway laughing.
I walked straight up to their leader.
And slapped her as hard as I could.
The laughter died instantly.
She stumbled back, hand to her cheek.
"How dare you—"
"How dare you lock me in there," I said.
