Chapter 5

The DNA results came at 9:14 the next morning.

I was in the kitchen pretending to drink coffee when Grace walked in.

Her face told me before her words did.

“Sibling match,” she said.

“Full?”

“Yes. Same parents.”

The mug slipped from my hand.

Coffee spilled across the marble.

I didn’t move.

Grace’s eyes softened.

“Daniel. She’s Lily.”

I gripped the counter.

For twenty years, I had lived inside uncertainty.

Now certainty hit me so hard I couldn’t stand straight.

My sister was alive.

My little sister was upstairs.

My little sister had slept under my roof.

And I had almost married the woman who tried to frame her.

“Does she know?” I asked.

“Not yet.”

“I need to tell her.”

I found Lily in the guest suite standing near the window, still wearing the borrowed sweater my housekeeper had brought her.

She looked small in that room.

Too careful.

Like she was afraid to touch anything expensive.

She turned when I knocked.

“Did it come back?”

I nodded.

She gripped the windowsill.

“And?”

I tried to speak.

Couldn’t.

Her face went pale.

“It’s not me.”

“It is.”

Her lips parted.

“What?”

“You’re my sister.”

For a second, she didn’t react.

Then her knees gave way.

I crossed the room and caught her before she hit the floor.

She clung to my sleeve.

“I’m really her?”

“You’re Lily Sterling.”

She shook her head as tears spilled over.

“I don’t know how to be that.”

“You don’t have to be anything today.”

“I don’t even know how to say the name.”

I held her tighter.

“We’ll say it together when you’re ready.”

She cried into my chest.

Then whispered, “I had a brother.”

I closed my eyes.

“You still do.”

By noon, the news broke.

Not from us.

Victoria.

Her team leaked a statement claiming an unstable domestic employee had manipulated me with a fake identity and stolen family property.

The headline spread fast.

MAID CLAIMS TO BE BILLIONAIRE’S LOST SISTER AFTER THEFT SCANDAL.

I read it once.

Then handed my phone to Grace.

“Destroy it.”

“With pleasure.”

Grace issued the DNA confirmation through legal channels.

Then released selected security footage.

Not all.

Enough.

Victoria planting the ring.

Victoria lying.

Victoria screaming as guards removed her.

The internet turned.

Fast.

Brutal.

By evening, reporters lined the gates.

Helicopters circled.

Lily watched from behind the curtain.

“They’re here because of me.”

“They’re here because of Victoria.”

“She said I stole.”

“She lied.”

“What if people believe her?”

I looked at the crowd outside.

“Some will. People believe what lets them keep their old story.”

She turned to me.

“What do we do?”

I paused.

I had spent my life using money to solve things.

Lawyers.

Security.

Private investigators.

Press control.

But Lily did not need a billionaire first.

She needed a brother.

“We tell the truth,” I said.

Her hands shook.

“Together?”

“Yes.”

That night, we recorded a short statement in the library.

No glamor.

No ballroom.

No diamonds.

Just us.

I spoke first.

“My sister Lily Sterling has been found after twenty years. DNA confirms what this family never stopped hoping for.”

Then Lily spoke.

Her voice trembled.

“My name is Lily. I am still learning what that means. I did not steal anything. I was framed. I only want time to understand my family.”

She looked at me.

I nodded.

She finished.

“And I want everyone who grew up without answers to know… sometimes the truth is still looking for you too.”

When the video ended, Marcus stood behind the camera with wet eyes.

Grace wiped her face discreetly.

I turned to Lily.

“You did beautifully.”

She exhaled shakily.

“I thought I would faint.”

“But you didn’t.”

“No.”

May you like

Her chin lifted slightly.

It was the first time I saw my sister look like she might one day believe she belonged.
